Mission Aschiana Orphanage...

"Raising Awareness for Afghan Orphans"

Goals:

To raise awareness and potentially funds to assist Aschiana orphanage in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Any funds raised in excess of basic race cost will be donated to the Aschiana orphanage.

What is Aschiana:

ASCHIANA works with street children in Afghanistan, a segment of Afghan society deeply traumatized by war and internal strife. According to a survey conducted by ASCHIANA, there were 28,000 street children in Kabul in 1996; since then that figure has more than doubled. Of the 1,300 children ASCHIANA surveyed, 327 were orphans, of whom 188 were girls and 139 were boys. The majority of children with whom ASCHIANA works lack formal education and have been working on the streets for at least six months in jobs ranging from burning incense to collecting firewood. Often their parents are unable to work due to disabilities. In other cases, one or both of the parents are deceased.
